I'd like to share the story of one of the most fun and rewarding projects I've had the honor to take part of.
Many of you may remember the infamous Porsche 918 Spyder that was crashed with only 92 miles on the odometer. Pictures of it circulated around the internet for a year as the insurance company worked through the incident. At that point it was listed and sold on Copart Auto Auctions, and for most people, that's where the story ends. For me, that's where it began.
Through friends and colleagues, the new owner was referred to me and was described as "the only person able and crazy enough" to take on the job of returning his Porsche halo car to its original glory.
From the first conversation about the car, the most important part for me was that there would be no corners cut and no expense spared. In true Porsche fashion, there would be no substitute.
Five months, countless shipments from Germany, and many late nights later, the car was complete. 100% completed by the owner and myself in a single work bay. Every damaged component was replaced with factory-correct parts sourced directly from Porsche. Every repair met or exceeded original specifications.
The 918 Spyder is one of the most technologically advanced hypercars ever built—a plug-in hybrid with sophisticated electronics, a V8 engine paired with electric motors, and construction techniques borrowed from Formula One. The complexity that makes the 918 remarkable also makes it extraordinarily difficult to repair properly. But we did it right.

But the satisfaction of rebuilding the car wasn't enough for the owner. Once complete, he contacted Porsche North America to request the "black flag" be removed from the vehicle's VIN. In his eyes, the car was repaired to its original state, with original parts all purchased and documented through Porsche.
Porsche agreed—under the condition that one of the lead engineers of the Porsche 918 development project be flown in to inspect the vehicle.
After a three-day comprehensive inspection of the vehicle's body, chassis, and electrical system, his report was faultless. The "black flag" was lifted and the vehicle's warranty was reinstated.
The car is still registered and enjoyed by its owner today.
This project demonstrated that even seemingly catastrophic damage doesn't have to mean the end for a significant car. With the right expertise and commitment, hypercars can be returned to factory condition—preserving not just a vehicle but a piece of automotive history.
Being described as "the only person able and crazy enough" to tackle a project like this reflects years of building trust through demonstrated capability. The referral came through friends and colleagues who knew what the job required. In the collector car world, reputation and relationships determine which specialists receive the most challenging work.
For 918 Spyder owners, this project established that full restoration is possible with the right specialist. While Porsche's own facilities offer certain advantages, we achieved results that earned factory validation—the warranty reinstatement proves it.
I appreciate the support from all my clients and friends. The opportunity to be part of projects like this wouldn't be possible without you. When people ask what I do, this is the kind of work that makes it all worthwhile—taking on the impossible and delivering results that exceed even Porsche's own standards.
